Introduction
Life science serves not only as a fundamental discipline exploring the secrets of humans and life, but the vast knowledge gained from such inquiry is also evolving into cutting-edge science and technology for the health and well-being of humanity. Recently, the human- and environment-friendly life science industry has been intensively fostered globally as a key industry of the 21st century. As Korea's life science-related industries have also developed dramatically, the demand for highly skilled professionals in biology is surging, making the career prospects for life science majors very bright.
The Life Sciences major fosters leading research and technical personnel equipped with active application and creative research capabilities by mastering the theories and principles regarding the operating mechanisms and functions of systematic phenomena that evolve at various levels of life, namely molecules, cells, tissues, organs, individuals, and populations. In particular, we live in an era where the economic value and importance of biological resources have become a key factor in national competitiveness. Accordingly, investment in and research on individual-centered educational programs focusing on microorganisms, fungi, plants, and animals have recently been increasing.
The Life Sciences major encompasses the traditionally emphasized domain of biology, and students will complete a diverse curriculum designed to understand how various levels of life phenomena interact to form temporal and spatial patterns, creating their dynamism and stability. In particular, the curriculum is characterized by an emphasis on the field of 'Integrative Organismic Biology,' which involves understanding diverse life phenomena at the individual level through various and comprehensive methods.
