Introduction
The Department of Korean Language and Literature aims to cultivate intercultural talents equipped with humanistic literacy and a global perspective, based on the ability to produce creative discourse and interpret culture critically. To foster self-directed individuals with humanistic creativity and global competence, our department operates programs that expand and deepen traditional fields of Korean Language and Literature, as well as conducting education and research in these areas.
Our department aims to provide a systematic and professional understanding and research of Korean Language and Literature. We offer in-depth and systematic education and research in Korean Linguistics, the study of the usage and history of orthography of the words and characters we use today, spanning ancient, medieval, and modern times, as well as Modern and Classical Literature, the study of various genres including poetry, novels, literary criticism, essays, classical songs, classical novels, and folktales.
Based on fundamental knowledge of Korean Language and Literature, students can complete a curriculum specialized in cultivating 'Korean language teaching competence,' 'creative writing competence,' and 'glocal cultural planning competence,' taking into account their individual interests and career paths. This series of processes will serve as a foundation for breaking away from the fixed and standardized image of traditional Korean Language and Literature departments and fostering the potential and possibility to integrate with related disciplines.
